Mini-Titan V1 with 325mm CF Main Blades |
The same principles of taming the 180CFX apply to larger helis as well. Here we have an old flybar'd Thunder Tiger Mini-Titan E325 V1. The manual suggests building it as either a 2S (2100 RPM 15T pinion) or 3S (2800 RPM 13T pinion) setup. I went with a 3S 2600 RPM 12T pinion setup, with a Castle Creations Talon35 (set for Governor High of course). I currently have throttle curves set for 2200, 2400 and 2600 RPM. She flies REALLY nice and quiet at 2200 RPM; not intimidating at all.

Swift NX with 520mm CF Main Blades |
Here's a 550 size heli on 5S running reduced head speeds of 1600, 1700 and 1800. This one typically runs on 6S at 2000-2200 which is how I flew it for a few years before taming it down.

Both of these helis have been discontinued so minimizing wear (lower RPM) and hopefully not crashing are things that make sense to me, especially since replacement parts aren't that easy to find these days.
