Optional 3S Setup (3900-5000 RPM) - Governor High Mode

CastleLink setup menus modified for Governor High Mode (3S).
One simple change you can make is to change the Talon 15's governor mode from Set RPM to Governor High.  Once this is done the "ranges" of throttle curve values no longer apply.  Instead, the value of the throttle curve now directly affects the output RPM as pre-defined by Castle Creations.  In other words, you tell CastleLink what RPM you would like, and it tells you the resulting throttle curve value to set in your transmitter.  While using a 3S pack the range of RPM allowed by CastleLink is between 3900 and 5290 RPM:

  • 3900 RPM = 79.9% Throttle.  ESC is at 70.0% output power.  (Minimum Recommended)
  • 4000 RPM = 81.0% Throttle.  ESC is at 71.8% output power.
  • 4100 RPM = 82.1% Throttle.  ESC is at 73.6% output power.
  • 4200 RPM = 83.2% Throttle.  ESC is at 75.4% output power.  (Default RPM #1)
  • 4300 RPM = 84.1% Throttle.  ESC is at 77.2% output power.
  • 4400 RPM = 85.2% Throttle.  ESC is at 79.0% output power.
  • 4500 RPM = 86.0% Throttle.  ESC is at 80.8% output power.
  • 4600 RPM = 86.9% Throttle.  ESC is at 82.6% output power.  (Default RPM #2)
  • 4700 RPM = 87.7% Throttle.  ESC is at 84.4% output power.
  • 4800 RPM = 88.5% Throttle.  ESC is at 86.2% output power.
  • 4900 RPM = 89.4% Throttle.  ESC is at 88.0% output power.
  • 5000 RPM = 90.2% Throttle.  ESC is at 89.7% output power.  (Default RPM #3)
  • 5100 RPM = 90.8% Throttle.  ESC is at 91.5% output power.
  • 5200 RPM = 91.6% Throttle.  ESC is at 93.3% output power.
  • 5290 RPM = 92.2% Throttle.  ESC is at 95.0% output power.  (Maximum Recommended)

Note that these RPM correspond to recommended power output values between 70.0% and 95.0%.

Like Set RPM mode you can expect around 3 minute flights with the included 3S 450mAh battery pack at the higher RPM. The lower RPM will result in longer flight times.

The benefit of switching to Governor High mode is you can now change your head speed (you no longer only have three choices) by simply changing the throttle curve value in your radio.  You don't have to use the CastleLink tool as you do in Set RPM mode.

For example if you have three flight modes on your transmitter and would like to have 4000, 4300 and 4600 RPM you would set Idle Up 1 to 81-81-81-81-81, Idle Up 2 to 84-84-84-84-84 and Idle Up 3 to 87-87-87-87-87.  If on the next flight you want to try 4200, 4500 and 4800 you simply change them to 83-83-83-83-83, 86-86-86-86-86 and 88.5-88.5-88.5-88.5-88.5, respectively.
